Solihull Borough Council has approved plans for £130 million pound runway extension at Birmingham Airport. The go ahead comes subject to certain environmental conditions being met. Ii particular the airport will have to meet guidelines laid out in the agreement not to breach noise and air pollution levels.
The extension of the runway by 400 metres will allow expansion of the route network to all parts of the USA, Canada, South America and the fast expanding Asian and Australian markets. Birmingham Airport has growth plans to expand the airport for use by up to 27 million passengers by 2030. The expansion of the route network will halt the drain of passengers to the established international hubs off Manchester and Heathrow.
