There are two runways at Frankfurt, with the larger 3000m one being subject to extension plans. However, the town of Ratingen is blocking this idea. Finally, it is worth noting that Dusseldorf is fully equipped to handle the new Airbus A380 aircraft, and is the back up airport to Frankfurt for this aircraft in inclement weather.
