Flights from Birmingham to Faro
Serving primarily the West Midlands, and in particular the large city of Birmingham, Birmingham International Airport is an important aviation centre located in the borough of Solihull in the West Midlands. It is the sixth busiest airport in the UK. The airport has been in almost constant use since the late 1930s, and saw military service during the Second World War. Control of Birmingham Airport passed to the West Midland County Council in 1960. In 2007 Birmingham was voted the best airport in Europe in the 5-10 million passenger category. There are future plans in place for building extra runways and to allow Birmingham to handle the new larger jets that are currently being rolled out.
The city of Birmingham itself is a large city with a population of around a million people. A centre for finance and commerce, it is also an important place for education, due to the presence of many Universities and colleges. Its central location also means it is an important nexus in the transport network of the country, both rail and road. This is due to the city’s close proximity to major roads such as the M1 and M6, and due to the presence of the railway station at Birmingham New Street.
Flights from Birmingham to Faro are very numerous and put on by many airlines. The budget airline BMIBaby puts on 5 cheap Birmingham to Faro flights a week, with First Choice Airways putting on two flights of their own a week. Monarch Airlines also schedule 7 flights a week from Birmingham to Faro, and both Thomsonfly and Thomas Cook Airlines have 2 Birmingham to Faro flights a week. These large number of flights is evidence of the popularity of the Faro area of the Algarve, Portugal.

The city is home to the University of the Algarve, and also to a seaport and marina, which is used by tourists and locals alike.
