Since its original construction on the 8th July 1939, the once humble Birmingham airport has expanded and grown to become the Birmingham International Airport, one of the most important and busiest airports in the United Kingdom. Gerona Airport, or Girona Costa Brava Airport, is a well connected airport located in the north east of the region of Catalonia in Spain. It flies to destinations around Europe and handled nearly 5 million passengers in 2007, up by more than one million on the year before. The airport was originally built in 1965, but its popularity remained fairly minor until Ryanair made Girona one of its European hubs. Passenger numbers grew from a few hundred thousand to millions and today many use Girona as an alternative to the main Barcelona airport. This is made possible by the extensive links the airport has via roads, bus routes and train lines within the surrounding areas.

Girona Airport has extensive parking facilities with around 2000 parking spaces spread across three car parks. The car parks are very secure and there is 24 hour surveillance as well as security services. The airport provides for long term and short term stays as well as offering parking for quick drop offs and pick ups of passengers. The rates are reasonably priced and conveniently located. For long stay parking, there is a car park situated a few minutes from the terminal and transport to and from this car park is regular and complementary.

Girona Airport is situated in the region of Catalonia in the north east of Spain. The airport lies approximately 12 kilometres south of the city of Girona with the closest neighbouring village being Vilobi d’Onyar. Many people use Girona Airport instead of the main Barcelona airport and Girona is roughly an hour away from Barcelona which is situated about 90 kilometres south west of the airport, along the coast. It is a similar distance north to the southern French border. The airport is closely connected to the Pyrenees and well linked to the Costa Brava.
Transport Links to Girona
Girona Airport is easily accessible via a number of routes. By road, it is served by the E-15/AP-7 toll road, the C-25 and the N-II. From these major roads, the airport is clearly signposted and straightforward to reach. There are also numerous bus services which operate around the airport and carry passengers to resorts along the Costa Brava, Barcelona and other stops in the surrounding area. These services run frequently and can be taken from very close to the airport terminal building. There is currently no train station that services the airport directly, but the Girona city main train station links up to various locations and towns.

Girona Costa Brava Airport boasts a number of business facilities. Located within the departure lounge of the terminal lies a VIP lounge which can be used upon request. Here, a calm atmosphere allows passengers to relax and use the various business services. There are also a few conference facilities located in the old terminal where a meeting hall equipped with a bar can be hired in advance. Furthermore, there are several hotels nearby that offer conference rooms such as the Vilobi that has a conference room with wireless internet and can fit up to 500 people.

The centre of the city is still determined by the Roman city and in this beautiful area many remnants from ancient eras can be seen. The Benedictine monastery, the Sant Feliu church and the 12th century Arab Baths are just a few examples of fascinating and stunning architectural highlights within Girona. There are also some well regarded restaurants in the city and the recently refurbished Rambla de la Llibertat is lined with shops which are very popular with visitors.
