Birmingham to Murcia flight
Birmingham Airport and Murcia Airport
Notable as the UK’s sixth largest airport, and with visitor numbers averaging around 9 million in 2007, Birmingham Airport is proud to hold the title ‘Best Airport in Europe’. Its location makes it highly attractive to passengers, with highly convenient transport links which reduce the commute time so frequently experienced with London airports. The airport has rapidly expanded over the years, to recently include the famous ‘Eurohub’ terminal, and is proud to boast eighty different airlines flying from it. All in all, Birmingham Airport is an excellent, central airport for passengers flying both internally and abroad, and also offers the usual excellent range of shopping, dining and leisure facilities increasingly found in world class airports.
About Birmingham
Birmingham’s people are incredibly proud to live in the UK’s most important city (after only London) and it certainly is becoming an evermore cosmopolitan and changing one. Birmingham is truly becoming recognised for its world class shopping, entertainment, sport and leisure facilities and is a highly enjoyable place for visitors to walk through - with well designed town squares, top notch shops and galleries and museums readily available for culture vultures. Birmingham is also a popular place to do business and hosts an increasing variety of international industry expos and research summits in the city.
Murcia Airport
Murcia Airport is unusual in that it’s used by both commercial aircrafts and military ones, and accordingly, it is used by commercial flights only after 3pm in the week, and all day at weekends. It was upgraded in 2006, with new check-in desks and improved security facilities, but due to its smaller size, it is extremely attractive for its efficient security systems and minimal queues. The departure lounge has also been enlarged greatly, with extra seating, a duty-free shop, public conveniences, gift shops and cafe facilities. It is also only a mere two and a half hours on average for flights from the UK.
Parking
Parking at Murcia airport was once free, but recently transferred to a charging system in line with other Spanish Airports. The carpark can be found immediately opposite the terminal entrance and it has over a thousand spaces for cars, coaches and buses etc. Latest parking tariffs can be found on the payment kiosks. Be careful, however, if you are returning hire cars, as there is separately marked parking for hire cars. It can be found by taking the turn after the general parking sign. Furthermore, if you are planning to leave your vehicle at Murcia Airport for over a week, then you’d be advised to contact the Information Office for advice on tariffs and arrangements. There may be more appropriate options for you, for example private transfers, which are particularly useful for people with villas or apartments in the area.
Airport Distance
Murcia Airport is approximately an hour’s drive away from Alicante (98 km) 35 minutes from La Manga (45 km), 50 minutes from Murcia City (53 km) & 25 minutes away from Torrevieja (35 km).
Transport links
Unlike many larger airports, Murcia Airport doesn’t have bus or train links for onward travel although there are private taxis or Airport Transfers. The taxi rank is situated directly outside of the main terminal building, and the queues tend to be manageable. Remember, however, that taxis only carry four people each, including children! A cheaper option is to book seats on one of the private shuttle buses and you can get online quotes for these in advance.
Business and conference facilities
Like many smaller Spanish Airports, there are not the business or conference facilities found in large international airports. However, some of the larger hotels in the nearby area can offer these facilities - for example the Holiday Inn Alicante-Playa de San Juan is an hour’s drive away approximately, and offers business and conference facilities for over 100 delegates.
